Are You Calling Me A Dog?
The project ‘Are You Calling Me A Dog?’ reimagines the history of the Mau Mau resistance in Kenya. In 1963 Kenya achieved independence after a long struggle for liberation that involved men and women mostly from the Kikuyu ethnicity or Nation. Nearly sixty years later, no real liberation occurred and the heroes of that time are now slowly disappearing. A great part of the colonial settlers stayed and integrated the society and the men and women who fabricated the Mau-Mau liberation fight have been forgotten by the new generations.
This project will be shown in the Dakar Biennale 2024, has been exhibited at the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum in Cologne 2021/2022 and has been shortlisted for the ICP/GOST First Photo Book Award 2020 as well as the 2018 Contemporary African Photography Prize.
